Behind every Illawarra Urgent Response uniform is a person who has chosen to be there for their community.

Our people are the heart of our organisation.

They come from different backgrounds, bring different experiences and possess different skills, but they are united by a shared commitment to care, professionalism, respect and community.

We believe the quality of an organisation is ultimately determined by the people who represent it. That is why wearing the Illawarra Urgent Response uniform means more than simply turning up for a shift—it means accepting the responsibility and trust that comes with representing our organisation and caring for members of our community.

People Who Care

Technical skills and qualifications matter, but so does humanity.

We expect our people to remember that behind every injury, illness, question or request for assistance is a person.

Sometimes the most important thing we can provide isn't equipment or a clinical intervention. Sometimes it is reassurance, patience, a listening ear or simply treating someone with kindness during a difficult moment.

We want our people to be the kind of people you would want looking after someone you love.

Trained for Their Role

Every member of our team operates according to their individual qualifications, training, competency and authorised scope of practice.

Our first aid personnel are appropriately trained for the roles they undertake, with personnel providing care within an Advanced First Aid environment where applicable.

We recognise that qualifications provide a foundation, but maintaining capability requires ongoing learning and practice. We therefore encourage continued professional development, skills maintenance and reflection on the experiences we encounter.

We also recognise something equally important:

Knowing your limitations is part of being competent.

Our people are expected to work within their scope, seek assistance when necessary and escalate to the appropriate emergency or healthcare service when a situation requires care beyond our capabilities.

Illawarra Urgent Response is still growing—and so are our people.

Some may stay with us for many years. Others may eventually take the experience they gain with us into healthcare, emergency services, community services or entirely different careers.
